“As often as we look with devotion upon the crucifix, so often does Jesus look upon us with love.”

The Considerations on the Passion of Jesus Christ is a collection of meditations prepared by St. Alphonsus in order to be useful to him as he prepared for his death and for “the great day of account.” His personal meditations were focused on the points contained in this book, which he hoped would enable him to leave this world “keeping before my eyes Jesus crucified, who is my only hope.”

This present book shows the intimate connection between the Incarnation and the Passion of Jesus Christ, the former the finest manifestation of His great love, and the latter its excessive proof. This book follows his other work, A Novena for Christmas, (from Slaying Dragons Press) which presents in great beauty the depth of love which motivated the Son of God to become man, to win our affection and to save our souls by His death on the Cross.

Among the many illuminating teachings contained in this book are the following:

  • How the great value of the Blood of Jesus Christ shows the great evil of our sins
  • How freely Jesus Christ embraced the Cross to save our souls
  • How precious God regards the soul of every man
  • How the human nature of Jesus Christ was especially prepared to suffer for us
  • How cruel was the scourging that Pilate believed it alone would satisfy the Jews
  • How the Passion of our Redeemer was not the work of man, but of the justice of God, and thus He was permitted to suffer more than any man ever could

In a world bereft of piety and devotion, we need to rely on the great luminaries whom Divine Providence has raised up in the Church. Let St. Alphonsus Liguori, a Saint transfigured by prayer and the love of God, be your teacher.

St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696 – 1787), was a zealous missionary, exemplary bishop, miracle worker, and prolific writer whose praises were sung by the whole Church during his life and after his death. Following his departure from this world, the Pope was inundated with requests to list St. Alphonsus Liguori among the great Doctors of the Church, an honor for which his writings, capturing the hearts of all who take hold of them, testify he is worthy.
